The Challenge

The goal was to add an interactive, creative experience to a professional networking event at Hotel Emblem in San Francisco. With more than 60 guests attending, the activity needed to fit naturally into the flow of the evening. People were meeting new contacts, enjoying drinks and food, joining conversations, and participating in a prize drawing.

The challenge was to create a compact, engaging activity where guests could stop by for 15–20 minutes, make something with their hands, and easily return to networking without interrupting the event.

Our Approach

The Art Garden Studio designed a pop-up terrarium-making station that could accommodate 6–10 guests at a time, with participants rotating approximately every 15–20 minutes.

To keep the experience organized and the guest flow smooth, we prepared individual terrarium kits in advance and arranged a separate station behind the scenes. This allowed our team to quickly replenish materials and prepare each workspace for the next group.

Each kit included a glass vessel, plants, natural materials, and decorative elements. Guests could follow a printed instruction card or receive personal guidance from our assistants. The compact setup made it possible to bring a complete hands-on creative activity into the networking space without requiring a dedicated workshop room or a fixed schedule.

The Experience

Throughout the evening, guests stopped by the terrarium station, often bringing their drinks and continuing conversations as they worked with plants and decorations. The relaxed, hands-on activity became a natural conversation starter. Our assistants were available to guide participants, answer questions, and help with the more challenging steps, making the experience easy and fun even for those who had never created a terrarium before.

Once their miniature gardens were complete, guests could take their creations with them and return to the main event, leaving the station ready for the next group.

The Outcome

The pop-up terrarium station brought a creative, nature-inspired element to the event. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to step away from traditional networking for a few minutes, work with living plants, and create something personal to take home.

With its compact footprint, quick participant rotation, and flexible drop-in format, the experience complemented the event's social atmosphere without interrupting conversations or other activities.
